So beginnt das berühmte Loreley-Lied, das Heinrich Heine 1824 als Gedicht schrieb. 1837 komponierte Friedrich Silcher die Melodie, die weltberühmt wurde. Eine Geschäftsreise führte mich für einen Tag nach Koblenz und so hatte ich die Gelegenheit ein wenig die Stadt zu erkunden. Die Heimreise führte mich dann auf den berühmten Felsen, der an der engsten Stelle des Rhein liegt. Das Tal ist hier nur einen knappen Kilometer breit.

Thus begins the famous Loreley song, which Heinrich Heine wrote as a poem in 1824. In 1837 Friedrich Silcher composed the melody which became world famous. A business trip took me to Koblenz for one day and so I had the opportunity to explore the city. The journey home led me to the famous rock, which is located at the narrowest point of the Rhine. The valley here is only one 0.6 miles wide.

Burg Katz, Deutschland – die um 1371 erbaute und in Privatbesitz befindliche Burg liegt oberhalb von St. Goarshausen und kann leider nicht besichtigt werden. / the castle, built around 1371 and privately owned, lies above St. Goarshausen and can unfortunately not be visited
Burg Rheinfels (bei St. Goar), Deutschland – entstand um 1245. In verschiedenen Kriegen konnte die Burg erfolgreich verteidigt werden, 1794 wurde sie jedoch französischen Revolutionstruppen übergeben. Die Franzosen sprengten 1797/98 die Burg, 1843 kaufte Wilhelm von Preußen die Burg, um sie vor weiterer Zerstörung zu bewahren. Die Stadt St. Goar nahm 1963/64 sowie in den 1990er Jahren Restaurierungen vor. / Rheinfels was built around 1245. In various wars the castle was successfully defended, but in 1794 it was handed over to French revolutionary troops. The French blew up the castle in 1797/98 and in 1843 Wilhelm of Prussia bought the castle to save it from further destruction. The town of St. Goar undertook restoration work in 1963/64 and in the 1990s.

Niederwalddenkmal bei Rüdesheim, Deutschland – entstand 1877 bis 1883 und soll an die Einigung Deutschlands und den Sieg über Frankreich 1871 erinnern. Das Denkmal ist 37,6 m hoch, die Figur der Germania 10,5 m. / The Niederwald-Monument was erected between 1877 and 1883 to commemorate the unification of Germany and the victory over France in 1871. The monument is 123 ft high, the figure of Germania 34 ft.
