Der tote Fürst liegt, reich verziert mit goldenem Totenschmuck, auf einem schön verzierten Totenbett aus Bronze. Zu seinen Füßen steht ein riesiger Bronzekessel, der mit Honigmet gefüllt war. Auf der anderen Seite der Grabkammer steht ein mit Eisen beschlagener Wagen. Auf ihm liegen das komplette Geschirr der Pferde und Bronzeteller; zusammen mit den Trinkhörnern an der Wand deutet alles auf ein frühkeltisches Bankett hin.

Warum weiß man so genau über den Inhalt eines Grabes von einem hochrangigen Keltenfürsten Bescheid?  1978 fand man in Hochdorf/Enz das reich ausgestattete Grab eines Keltenfürsten aus der Zeit um ca. 550 v. Chr. Man hatte früher in der Region schon andere Keltengräber entdeckt, aber die waren bereits geplündert. In Hochdorf aber die Sensation: Das Grab war unversehrt und nicht beraubt worden. Ein Glücksfall für die Archäologen und Forscher. Seit 1991 kann man den Nachbau des Grabes im Keltenmuseum Hochdorf sehen und viel über die Zeit vor ca. 2.500 Jahren erfahren.

At the Grave of a Celtic Prince

The dead prince lies, richly decorated with golden funeral ornaments, on a beautifully decorated deathbed made of bronze. At his feet stands a huge bronze cauldron filled with honey mead. On the other side of the burial chamber there is a wagon covered with iron. On it lie the complete harness of the horses and bronze plates; together with the drinking horns on the wall everything points to an early Celtic banquet.

Why do people know so much about the contents of a grave of a high-ranking Celtic prince?  In 1978 the richly furnished grave of a Celtic prince from around 550 B.C. was found in Hochdorf/Enz. Other Celtic graves had been discovered in the region earlier, but they had already been looted. In Hochdorf, however, the sensation: the tomb was intact and had not been robbed. A stroke of luck for the archaeologists and researchers. Since 1991 the replica of the grave can be seen in the Celtic Museum Hochdorf and in the exhibition visitors can learn a lot about the time about 2,500 years ago.

Keltenmuseum Hochdorf – Der wiederhergestellte Grabhügel besteht aus ca. 7.000 m³ aufgeschütteter Erde und liegt etwas außerhalb des Ortes Hochdorf. Die Größe zeigt den Einfluss und die Macht des toten Fürsten. / The reconstructed burial mound, which consists of approx. 247, 203 ft³ of heaped-up earth, is located just outside the village of Hochdorf and shows the influence and power of the dead prince.
