das habe ich an einem Aussichtspunkt in den Hügeln am Fuß der Tehachapi Mountains. Auf was ich gewartet habe? Auf einen der ca. 40 bis 60 sehr langen Güterzüge, die die Kreiskehre, den Tehachapi Loop, täglich durchfahren. Diese 1,17 km lange Kehre wurde in den Jahren 1874 bis 1876 im Rahmen des Baus der Bahnstrecke von San Francisco nach Los Angeles gebaut. Durch diese Kreiskehre, die einen Durchmesser von ca. 370 m hat, kann auf engem Raum eine Höhe von 23,50 m Höhe überwunden werden.
Diese außergewöhnliche Zeit, die verausssichtlich bis zum 20. April andauern wird, ist geprägt von Ausgangsbeschränkungen. Der Aufenthalt draußen soll auf Spaziergänge beschränkt werden, was längere Ausflüge und Reisen in andere Länder unmöglich macht. Und so kann ich keine neuen Geschichten schreiben. Ob ich Mitte Mai nach Kalifornien fliegen kann – danach sieht es derzeit nicht aus. Ich plane mal schon um, für eine Reise im Herbst oder Frühwinter.

Waited in vain
I did that at a viewpoint in the foothills of the Tehachapi Mountains. What I was waiting for? For one of the 40 to 60 really long freight trains passing through the Tehachapi Loop, each day. This 1.9 mi long loop was built between 1874 and 1876 as part of the railway line from San Francisco to Los Angeles. With this loop, which has a diameter of approx. 1.214 ft, a height of 77 ft can be overcome.
This exceptional time, which will probably last until 20 April, is characterised by exit restrictions. The stay outside is limited to walks, which makes longer excursions and trips to other countries impossible. And so I cannot write any new stories. Whether it will be possible to fly to and travel in California in May – it does not look like that at the moment. I’m already planning for a trip in autumn or early winter.
To shorten the time until I can write about new adventures, I will be writing stories from past trips to the US.

Sabine, Thank you for sharing your treasures with us. Your narrations make the photos so much more meaningful. Yes, these are extraordinary times and it seems that many blessings are coming from the disappointments, inconveniences, and fear being expressed by many. Our church has joined the throng of many others in broadcasting our services and Sunday School online. There are reports of gratitude by those who live farther away and can now attend our services online. We also are learning to be more grateful for what we have when it is suddenly suspended. Every day brings evidence of new blessings in the midst of many hardships and sacrifices. What would we do without Christian Science, especially in times like these. Letting our light shine has never been more needed. Thank you for letting yours shine!
