Südöstlich von Caliente liegt ein besonderer State Park – Kershaw-Ryan State Park. Warum ist er besonders? Nun, die Picknick Area ist ein kleiner Park mit einem Brunnen mit Koi-Karpfen und Goldfischen drin; es gibt ein Planschbecken für Kinder, Rasen und wunderschön angelegte Blumenbeete. Dank des Wassers, das ein Bach bringt, wachsen im Canyon große Bäume, unter denen es schön kühl ist. Wem ist diese herrliche Anlage zu verdanken? In den 1870 bewirtschafteten Samuel und Hannah Kershaw den Canyon. Die Obstbäume stehen heute noch in der Picknick Area. Um 1900 kaufte James Ryan das Land und schenkte es in den 1920ern dem Staat, um es als öffentlichen Park allen zugänglich zu machen. Der Park liegt am nördlichsten Ende der Mojave Wüste, am südlichsten Ende des Great Basin und wird auch von Ökosystem des Colorado Plateaus, das östlich von hier liegt, beeinflusst. Daher sind hier Pflanzen aus allen drei Ökosystemen zu finden.

Kershaw-Ryan State Park – a little gem

Southeast of Caliente lies a special state park – Kershaw-Ryan State Park. Why is it special? Well, the picnic area is a small park with a fountain with koi fish and goldfish in it; there’s a wading pool for kids, lawns and beautifully landscaped flower beds. Thanks to the water from a stream, large trees grow in the canyon, under which it is nice and cool. Whom do we owe these beautiful grounds? In the 1870s, Samuel and Hannah Kershaw managed the canyon. The trees of their orchard are still standing in the picnic area today. Around 1900, James Ryan bought the land and donated it to the state in 1920s to make it accessible to all as a public park. The park is located at the northernmost end of the Mojave Desert, at the southernmost end of the Great Basin and is also influenced by the ecosystem of the Colorado Plateau, which lies to the east of here. Therefore, plants from all three ecosystems can be found here.
