Dieses Juwel – Pyramid Lake – liegt inmitten der Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation. Der See ist der größte Rest des Lake Lahontan, der bis vor ca. 12.000 Jahren weite Teile des nordwestlichen Nevada und der angrenzenden Gebiete bedeckte. Pyramid Lake ist ca. 48 km lang und max. 14 km breit. An der tiefsten Stelle misst man 109 m. Den Namen hat er von John C. Fremont erhalten, der ihn 1844 auf seiner zweiten Expedition als erster Europäer sah. Die Pyramide ist für die Paiute ein heiliger Ort. A Blue Jewel in the Northwest of Nevada

This jewel – Pyramid Lake – is located in the middle of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation. The lake is the largest remnant of Lake Lahontan, which covered much of northwestern Nevada and neighboring areas until about 12,000 years ago. Pyramid Lake is approx. 29 mi long and max. 9 mi wide. At its deepest point it measures 356 ft. It was named after John C. Fremont, who was the first European to see it on his second expedition in 1844. The pyramid is a sacred place for the Paiute.
