Auf den Spuren der Siedler des 19. Jahrhunderts

Beim Rastplatz Beowawe stoße ich auf den Marker des California Trail. Ab hier folgt die I 80 nach Osten diesem historischen Weg, auf dem Siedler von Missouri nach Kalifornien unterwegs waren. Die erste Gruppe waren die 39 ‚Reisenden‘, die 1841 unter der Leitung von John Bidwell nach Westen unterwegs waren. Ich bin in die andere Richtung und viel bequemer unterwegs, muss mich nicht durch Staub, Sand und Marschen mit einem Planwagen mühen. Das California Trail Interpretive Center westlich von Elko schildert den beschwerlichen Weg sehr anschaulich.

In the Footsteps of the 19th Century Settlers

At the Beowawe rest area, I come across the California Trail marker. From here, I 80 follows this historic path to the east on which settlers traveled from Missouri to California. The first group were the 39 ‚travelers‘ who headed west in 1841 under the leadership of John Bidwell. I am traveling in the other direction and much more comfortably, not having to toil through dust, sand and marshes in a covered wagon. The California Trail Interpretive Center west of Elko describes the arduous route very clearly.
