43 km südöstlich von Elko liegt ein grandioser 19 km langer Canyon, der gut mit dem Auto zu befahren ist, auch wenn’s manchmal kurvig und steil ist. Die Straße endet auf einer Höhe von 2.682 m in den Ruby Mountains, die auch die Nevada Alpen genannt werden. Jetzt Anfang Mai bin ich noch nicht in diese Höhe gekommen, es lag noch Schnee und auch die tiefer gelegenen Wanderwege waren größtenteils noch unterm Schnee versteckt. Aber beeindruckend ist der Canyon trotzdem.

A Big Canyon in Nevada – Lamoille Canyon
27 mi southeast of Elko lies a magnificent 12 mi long canyon that is easy to drive through, even if it is sometimes winding and steep. The road ends at an altitude of 8,800 ft in the Ruby Mountains, also known as the Nevada Alps. At the beginning of May I had not yet reached this altitude, there was still snow and most of the lower-lying hiking trails were still hidden under the snow. But the canyon is still impressive.
