In Caliente waren die Hotels ausgebucht. Wie gut, denn sonst hätte ich niemals in Pioche übernachtet, das einmal die gefährlichste Stadt in Nevada war. In den 1870er Jahren war es eine Boomtown, dank der reichen Silberfunde und ca. 60 % der Morde in Nevada geschahen hier. Aber zum Glück sind diese Zeiten schon lange vorbei. Heute leben noch knapp 1.000 Menschen hier und es ist ein friedlicher Ort mit dem historischen Overland Hotel und dem ältesten Café in Nevada, dem Silver Cafe.

Pioche, the Overland Hotel and the Silver Cafe

The hotels in Caliente were fully booked. How good, because otherwise I would never have spent the night in Pioche, which was once the most dangerous town in Nevada. In the 1870s it was a boom town thanks to the rich silver discoveries and around 60 % of murders in Nevada took place here. Fortunately, those days are long gone. Today, just under 1,000 people still live here and it is a peaceful place with the historic Overland Hotel and the oldest café in Nevada, the Silver Cafe.
