Mittlerweile bin ich wieder Zuhause in Deutschland und diese Geschichte ist der Auftakt zu weiteren von meiner Hawai’i Reise.

Auf Hawai’i Island habe ich zwei wunderbar ausgemalte Kirchen gesehen – die St. Benedict Church, von der man über die KealakekuaBay blickt. Die heutige Kirche wurde 1899 von Pater John Velghe erbaut. Ohne Kenntnisse wie man auf normalen Haus Farbe aufbringt, verschönerte er die Kirche mit seinen Gemälden. Im Südosten der Insel bin ich dann noch auf die ebenso schön bemalte Kirche Star of the Sea gestoßen.

Painted Churches – St. Benedict und Star of the Sea

I am now back home in Germany and this story is the prelude to more from my trip to Hawai’i.

I saw two beautifully painted churches on Hawai’i Island – St. Benedict Church, which overlooks Kealakekua Bay. The current church was built in 1899 by Father John Velghe. Without knowing how to apply paint to a normal house, he embellished the church with his paintings. In the south-east of the island, I came across the equally beautifully painted Star of the Sea church.
