Klar und vermutlich sogar mehr als die größte Orgel der Welt, die im Dom in Passau, Pfeifen hat. Und das sind immerhin stolze 17.974. Wo es das gibt? Im Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument im Süden Arizonas. Diese Orgelpfeifenkakteen wachsen v. a. an den felsigen Hängen, da die Steine die Hitze des Tages speichern und es dadurch den kälteempfindlichen ‚Pfeifen‘ nicht zu kalt wird. Neben den Orgelpfeifenkakteen wachsen auch die Saguaros, Ocotillos und viele andere Büsche und Sträucher. Leider hat es diesen Winter zu wenig geregnet, so dass ich die Wüste nicht blühen sehen kann – aber sie ist auch ohne Blütenmeer faszinierend.

At Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in the southern part of Arizona. The organ pipe cacti usually grow on the slopes in stony terrain because the stones store the heat of the day. So they prevent very cold temperatures which the organ pipe cactus doesn’t like. Here are also growing ocotillos, different kinds of cholla cactus and many more scrubs, bushes and trees. Last winter there was only little rainfall so the wildflowers don’t bloom – but nevertheless the desert is fascinating.
